These insects like to perform at night, in quiet, when they are hardly seen. They are attracted by the heat and carbon dioxide released during breathing, and prefer dry, dark places with poor ventilation and close to their food source.

During the day, they hide in tiny places where humans cannot reach. They show a special preference for seams in mattresses or small holes in bed frames and all the surrounding area. They are therefore also known as Bed Bugs.

They live in tiny spaces, about the width of a credit card. Because of their nocturnal habits and their small size, they are easily unnoticed.

SWhenever their presence is detected, we advise Bed Bug disinfestation by experienced professionals.

How to identify a bed bug

The bed bug (Cimex lectularius) is a hematophagous insect of the family Cimidae, belonging to the phylum of Arthropods

It has a flattened body covered with small hairs and an oval shape, measuring between 4 and 5 millimeters. It is red to brown in color and moves slowly.

The female can lay up to 500 eggs per year, which hatch up to 21 days later. Bed Bugs live on average between 6 and 9 months, and can even reach 12 months in a dormant state without feeding.

Since they do not have wings, they are not able to fly. However, they can climb walls and other structures.

How to Detect the Presence of Bed Bugs

At home, in your hotel or elsewhere, if you suspect a bed bug infestation, pay attention to the following signs:

  • Redness on the skin
  • Itchiness
  • Dark stains on the floor, furniture, or mattress
  • Tiny golden pellets shed by the nymphs
  • Sweet-smelling odor

How do bedbugs arise?

Globalization is the big culprit in recent bed bug infestations. This insect knows no borders and hides in people's luggage and clothing. From their tiny hiding places, they easily move into hotel rooms and other accommodations.

With the increase in international travel and the number of tourists, the risk of Bed Bugs hitching a ride on the luggage of upcoming guests is growing.

When traveling, inspect the hems and seams of suitcases where bed bugs like to hide. When you arrive at your hotel, check to see if you detect any signs on the sheets and pillows.

On the way home, place your suitcase on a white sheet and shake it out to make sure you don't have a Bed Bug infestation. Wash all clothes thoroughly at a temperature above 40°C. What you can't wash, leave in the sun for a few hours before putting it away.

If you detect the presence of Bed Bugs, put your items in a well-sealed plastic bag and call a professional who is qualified in Bed Bug disinfestation.

FAQ

A pest is defined as an outbreak of a species that becomes harmful to humans or that disturbs ecosystems, interfering with the balance of a habitat. Pests cause various epidemic diseases to humans and even animals. A pest is usually associated with a high number of a particular species that leads to ecological imbalances and can be composed of insects, mites, birds, among others.
There is often a pest in your home, without it being easily detectable. Many species hide or protect themselves when they sense the human presence, manifesting when we are not there. For this reason, you must pay attention to signs such as feces, marks, food or noisy objects for example. These are small signs that can mean you are in the presence of a pest, even if it is not visible.
Truly Nolen advises you to ask for professional help to ensure that your pest is eliminated. The combination of experience with extensive research and development results in the best protocols prepared to solve any pest problems. The continuous training of our technicians ensures correct execution, guaranteeing the effectiveness of the service, which results in the total elimination of your pest. If you try to do it in an amateur way, you run the risk of not only not eliminating the pest but also making the situation worse.
Yes. Truly Nolen and its research and development team have created a proactive program aimed at identifying and addressing the changes in the behavior of each pest from season to season. For example, in summer insects multiply more than in winter, which requires an adaptation in the pest control service. Products and equipment can be changed, as well as the methods used.
A very common mistake when talking about pests is to believe that the warmer seasons are the only times of the year when they pose a threat. This is not true, many pest species pose a year-round threat. What does exist is a change in behavior from one season to another, which does not mean that protective measures are less necessary. It is important to have pest control during the four seasons of the year so that your safety is always assured.
